The Department of Chemistry at Anugrah Narayan College (A.N. College), Patna, is one of the most distinguished departments in the Faculty of Science. The department is dedicated to the study of matter, its composition, structure, properties, and transformations. As a constituent unit of Patliputra University, A.N. College has a strong tradition of excellence in science education, and the Department of Chemistry plays a pivotal role in imparting quality education, promoting scientific research, and developing skilled professionals in chemical sciences.
The Department of Chemistry is one of the oldest faculties of the college. The department is housed on the ground floor of "Science Block". The under graduate course in Chemistry was started in 1967 and the experience gained through successful running of this course culminated into the start of Post graduate course in 1982. The department also facilitates researches and has well equipped laboratories along with a departmental library.
The Chemistry Department builds a foundation in the principle of chemistry that is vital for career opportunities to the students in industry, research and development as well as the civil and education services. The Department is headed by Dr Bihari Singh. There is a Departmental Committee through which common consensus is achieved under the chairmanship of the HOD to execute necessary work for the healthy growth of the department. The following courses are offered by the Dept. Department has a centralized instrumentation room for research work. It has a library having more than 1500 reference and text books and a good number of old journals. Three research journals are subscribed regularly. It has well equipped laboratories for running practical classes separately for under-graduate as well as post-graduate students. Each faculty member has a chamber for the purpose of study, research as well as counselling of students. M.Sc. final year students has an option of selecting Entomology or Fish biology as their special paper.
