The Department of Physics at Anugrah Narayan College (A.N. College), Patna, is one of the most prestigious departments in the Faculty of Science. The department is dedicated to the study of matter, energy, motion, space, time, and the fundamental laws governing the universe. As a constituent unit of Patliputra University, A.N. College has established itself as a leading center of scientific education in Bihar, and the Department of Physics plays a vital role in nurturing scientific temper, innovation, and research among students.
The department of physics is one of the oldest in the college with expertise in imparting education up to the postgraduate level. The department has produced several scientists, academicians, it professionals, civil servants and business executives. Every year our students qualify for the post graduate and research programmes of institutes of repute and management programmes of country “s“ good business schools and post graduate courses of computer application in reputed universities. Apart from this some of our students also get placed every year through the placement cell of the college.
The department boasts of a highly qualified faculty who apart from their academic responsibilities are also actively engaged in research in various emerging fields of the discipline. Faculty members are also guiding research students for their Ph.D degree. Some of the prominent areas of interest of the faculty members are studies in ferroelectricity and nanoscience, thin films and they have published well over 50 research papers in reputed top class referred national & international journals. The faculty frequently participates, presents papers and chairs sessions in national and international conferences held in India and abroad.
The department has three fully equipped and well furnished laboratories with the latest state of the art equipment to facilitate deeper understanding of various aspects of physics such as solid state and electronics. Out of these, two labs are dedicated to conducting experiments in physics and one in conducting experiments in electronics. Some of the important studies undertaken in these labs are designing of electronic circuits, diffraction experiments , circuit analysis using cathode ray oscilloscope and experiments in solid state physics apart from experiments in mechanics, optics and electricity and magnetism. P.G & U.G students of physics are encouraged to conduct academic lectures, seminars, workshops, extracurricular activities and educational trips to visit research and experimental facilities of various research organizations in the country.
